Cake Break at LPMSC
Once or twice a year, we have a cake break which is a national effort to raise money for MS. Our supporters either bake amazing cakes or even buy them in a united effort to run this delicious event. For those who do not have a sweet tooth, we also have savoury treats like sausage rolls and samosas which can also serve as a light lunch.
The morning of the event starts off with our volunteers and others that we may not have seen for a while turning up with their goodies. We observe with wonderment, some of the amazing iced cakes obviously made by very experienced bakers, and other simpler but delicious cakes that are old favourites, like lemon drizzle and chocolate brownies and if we are lucky, someone will also bring some sumptuous rocky road squares.
A couple of volunteers will start to assemble the cakes into the wicker baskets along with napkins to take round to the local businesses so that they can be bought for mid-morning breaks. Other cakes are then carefully arranged on cakes stands on the worktop in the kitchenette. Cups and mugs are ready for the first visitors at the centre for this event.
During this flurry of activity, another volunteer prepares the raffle and sells tickets to people as they come in. We have a raffle with great prizes which makes this a fun way to raise money and enjoy some time with friends at the LPMSC.
The LPMSC is funded entirely by voluntary contributions via events, small or big and this is one way of helping to keep a wonderful centre like LPMSC running for those affected by MS. Do your bit and support these events by either baking or buying some cakes, helping to sell them and partaking in the raffle. Every little helps!
