Social activities at the Centre are day or evening events organised to benefit people with MS. Fundraising events help keep the Centre running. Other events inform and provide people with a venue to socialise with others, which helps with mental health and well-being. The Centre Manager and team organise the events to enable people with MS to attend a friendly, understanding, fun and informative venue and meet their needs.
Each activity is different and does not necessarily involve the same people or format. Activities are based on the availability of volunteers and the interests displayed by users. Some of those activities being:
Christmas Fayre – This is organised annually about a month before Christmas. Mulled wine, mince pies and refreshments are served. You can find the perfect Christmas present at one of the stalls where local people sell their handmade unique goods and small children can visit Santa. Entertainment is provided by local artists.
Cake Breaks are a national effort to raise money via volunteers baking or buying cakes and being sold at the centre.
Benefit Information Days – A benefits advisor from disability direct attends the centre to inform individuals about the latest benefits news and entitlements. Tea and coffee are served.
Newly Diagnosed Information Days – People who are newly diagnosed are invited to attend the centre to understand MS, gather information and ask questions. Speakers include MS Nurse, Physio and complementary therapist. Information is also given regarding the available activities at the centre and how these may help with MS.
Afternoon Teas – These are organised for families and friends to meet and fundraise. Sandwiches, cakes and drinks are served at tables that are dressed using traditional cups and saucers. Music and quizzes are often hosted for fun.
Quiz Events – Our regular quiz master performs quizzes, and food is served e.g. fish and chips. Some of our previous events have been sponsored by people who have an affinity with the centre. It helps people with MS to socialise and enjoy a fun afternoon.
